There is still time to comment on Bill 23's Proposed Conservation Authorities Act and Regulatory Changes. Deadline is Friday Dec 9th at midnight
Why is it Bad? The Conservation Authorities will no longer be able to provide expert advice on how new development proposals will impact natural heritage features such as wetlands, woodlands, species at risk, wildlife habitat, natural heritage systems, wildlife corridors, or water quality. Municipalities will have to rely on their own in-house staff or hire outside consultants to do the work that the Conservation Authorities used to do. Conservation Authorities will only be mandated to look at flooding. This will cost you, the taxpayer, extra money. The Conservation Authorities are also supposed to give up their conservation lands for housing development. Do we want to lose Lemoine Point? No!!!
